Madeline Curtis

As an artist and graphic designer, two of the most important things for me are creativity and communication intersecting. I am always finding resources and ways to make my work connect to my audience and give it a feeling.  Whether it is a hand drawn illustration or a company rebrand, each project is an opportunity to heighten the need for more connection and inspiration in our society. 

As a dual major in graphic design and illustration, I am able to combine these techniques and let my own style show through. In a world where technology is taking the lead, using a traditional medium in combination with top notch design software, there is a happy medium where authenticity can still be seen. In my designs I focus strongly on color scheme and revisiting classic styles of design and illustration. Much of my inspiration comes from vintage editorial design, magazine covers, and children’s book illustrations. This can also come into play when creating a logo or branding for to a company. One of the most important aspects of creating a design is not relying on trends, but making a design that can be timeless and stand out in comparison to other companies. 

When working with a client, having strong communication skills is vital to being a designer. In a world where sole communication can be online, I pride myself in staying consistent with a work schedule, staying in touch with my client and being open to their feedback. In my fourth year as a design student at Missouri State, my courses have trained me to receive feedback proficiently as well as giving critique to other design work. A part of our job is trial and error, and positive communication with clients is vital. As a designer I will always strive for creating work that will make a lasting impression, and express my creativity without bounds.
